In April 2003 Ashton Seals position was strengthened through
the acquisition of the gasket cutting company Clough (Croydon)
Ltd., a specialist in the production of high quality gaskets,
and the supply of sheet jointing, all of which complement the
existing Ashton Seals portfolio.
At the start of 2004 Clough (Croydon) was fully integrated into
Ashton Seals becoming the Ashton Seals Gasket Division, operating
from our premises in Barnsley.
Clough (Croydon) has brought to Ashton Seals over 70 years experience
in gasket manufacture and through using the latest CAD/CAM technology
Ashton Seals is now able to provide a competitive and responsive
service in all materials.
A particularly close relationship exists with Klinger Ltd.,
and a full gasket service exists for the supply of cut products
manufactured in Klingersil and Topchem sheet material. Graphite
and metal gasket products also feature within the wide product
range.
The expertise and experience that Ashton Seals are now able
to offer makes us unique within the industry. Whether your requirement
is for a one-off prototype or a multi-thousand run we have the
ability to meet your requirement both quickly and competitively.
CUT GASKETS & SHEET
Ashton Seals stock a complete and versatile range of material,
including compressed non-asbestos fibre (CNAF), together with
commercial rubber, neoprene, nitrile, EPDM, butyl, silicone, vitonŽ
and polyurethane sheet.
In addition, we maintain large stocks of various grades and
thicknesses, of plain and rubber-bonded cork, gasket paper, felt,
plain and reinforced graphite, vulcanized fibre, plastic and sponge
materials and virgin, filled and/or expanded PTFE. As might be
expected of a company with our experience, we recognise and can
certify to most British and many other foreign standards.
Tooling is available to produce all standard pipe flange gaskets
(BST, ASA, DIN etc.) from any material.
Simply advise:-
ˇ GRADES REQUIRED
ˇ THICKNESS
ˇ FLANGE SPECIFICATION (E.G. BS 10, ASA 300, BS 4504)
ˇ THE NOMINAL BORE
ˇ WHETHER INSIDE BOLT CIRCLE (RING JOINT) OR FULL FACE
For individual requirements to customer specification, new tooling
can be produced and gaskets cut, in many instances on a 24 hour
basis.
Special Gaskets
Should press cutting not be practical or economical we have
the ability and experience to produce hand-made joints to any
shape or size.
Cork
The durability and versatility of cork has made it one of the
most popular materials for sealing applications. Being a natural
product, it possesses many advantages. It can be compounded with
a variety of raw materials to provide a comprehensive range of
sealing products.
The merits of various synthetic rubber compounds such as neoprene,
nitrile and silicone are well known. By blending carefully selected
high quality cork granules with these polymers, finished products
can be provided which combine all the advantages of rubber:-
High tensile strength, resistance to many fluids, ability to
withstand extremes of temperature - with the natural properties
of cork - high compression, good recovery and low load sealing.
Neoprene Bonded Cork
It is by far the most versatile and popular of the whole range
of cork sheetings. Widely used in the petrochemical industry,
in marine and general engineering, on large internal combustion
engines, compressors, refrigerator systems, transformers and on
any similar application where efficient sealing is required under
vibratory or fluctuating conditions.
Nitrile Bonded Cork
Compounded especially for use with automatic, high octane and
aviation fuels (kerosene), the range of materials under this heading
can also be varied in formula to provide optimum sealing with
controlled swell under the most arduous conditions.
Gasket Paper
Made from vegetable fibre, specially impregnated to provide
high resistance to petroleum derivatives, solvents and lubricating
oils, and suitable for operating at temperatures up to 120°C (250°F).
It is available in roll form 1 metre wide and in thicknesses from
.15mm to 3mm. A complete gasket cutting service is available in
this material.
Plastics
We manufacture gaskets and machined components from many of
the different engineering plastics - e.g. polythene, polypropylene,
nylon, PVC and fluorocarbons such as vitonŽ and PTFE.
PTFE
PTFE provides excellent resistance to an exceptionally wide
range of aggressive substances. Additionally it is chemically
inert, increasing its suitability for applications sensitive to
external contamination.
Extruded and Moulded Rod and Tube
To BS 4271, BS 3873 and BS 5130. Extruded rod is available in
sizes from 4.8mm diameter to 63.5mm diameter and in 1m or 2m lengths.
Moulded rod is available in 12" lengths from 54mm diameter to
305mm diameter.
Whatever the application we can supply an efficient solution
to meet your requirements.
PTFE Sheeting
To BS 3784. Available in thicknesses from 0.8mm to 51mm and
in sheet sizes from 305mm x 305mm to 1220mm x 1220mm. Chemically
or mechanically etched sheet and strip is available where bonding
to other components or structures is required. Thinner gauge sheeting
is also available.
Virgin, Expanded or Filled PTFE
- Virgin PTFE grades are used for Gaskets in the food & pharmaceutical
industries
- Expanded PTFE grades are used for damaged flange faces and
glass or plastic flanges
- Filled PTFE grades are used where specific physical or electrical
properties are required.
PTFE Envelope/Rubber Insert Gaskets
Standard Rubber joints can be provided with an envelope of pure
PTFE to protect the exposed joint edge from corrosive attack,
or for applications where hygiene conditions are essential. In
addition we stock a wide range of PTFE envelopes to suit standard
pipe flanges and special envelopes can be fabricated to almost
any given size or insert.
RUBBER
We maintain a comprehensive range of rubber sheeting in a variety
of thicknesses from which the vast majority of applications can
be satisfied.
Rubber sheeting and strip can be supplied in many qualities
and cut to suit your requirements. Our technical sales staff will
be pleased to advise you on the most economical means of meeting
your needs.
Sponge Rubber gaskets and Strip can be supplied is available
where a joint is required to be highly compressible under light
flange loading. We can produce a wide variety of gaskets, joints
and strip in many grades of sponge rubber, with or without a pressure-sensitive
adhesive packing.
We provide an efficient service for extruded, moulded and machined
components, and will be pleased to discuss your specific requirements.
Rubber Matting
Since the origination of the standard for electrical matting
in 1976, BS921 Safety Matting has been widely used in a variety
of switchboard, high voltage, test bench & repair shop applications.
We supply 15Kv (BS921), in 3 standard roll widths 914mm, 1m &
1.22m) 11Kv matting is also available in these same size.
